About Us

Written by Cycling-Inform founder David Heatley.

I started riding in 1980. I spent my holidays riding around the top half of the North Island visiting my relatives. My first race was the Balfour Pennington Handicap race run by Port Nicholson Poneke Cycling Club in 1981. I then went on to race at centre and national level in New Zealand. I have been happily racing in Masters in Australia since 2001 after moving here in 1999. I married Jodie who comes from Ballarat in 2004.

Cycling-Inform was a long time in the making. When I moved over to Australia and working full time I was always thinking about what I really wanted to do. Finally I decided to follow my passion and start a business around my cycling.

In 2007 Cycling-Inform was created. 2007 was the year that we ran our first Bright Boot Camp. The Bright Boot Camp idea came from a four day training weekend that I did with Olof, my training partner in 2006. We went up to train in Bright a few months after we both raced the Tour of Bright. I truly fell in love with the place when I raced up there and just had to go back. I love introducing people to the area. The camps are a special time for me. It's fantastic to be able to catch up with my cycling friends and to meet new ones while sharing the "ride" on some of the best roads in Australia.

The following year we released the Matt Brindle Functional DVD with my personal trainer Matt Brindle after a year of development.  Our business has been successfully growing year on year ever since. I now coach people all over Australia, the UK and in Singapore as well as here in Victoria. That was the same year that we released our online shopping cart.

In 2009 it was a fantastic feeling to say good bye to the corporate world and start working full time at Cycling-Inform. A dream come true and not without a lot of work and pre planning. Jodie joined me full time mid 2010. She works on our online store and looks after all the cycling camp bookings.

In 2010 we introduced indoor cycling workout classes at Bike Park in the Melbourne CBD. I also started working on new products, upgraded our remote coaching offering and introducing personalised power profiling to all out training workouts.

My passion for cycling started, in what feels like, years ago and it hasn’t dwindled. And... I get a huge feeling of satisfaction and joy from helping cyclists ride faster stronger and achieve their personal cycling goals. I have coached cyclists to masters national and world medals. I have also helped cyclists prepare for small and big recreational events across Europe, the UK and here in Australia via our successful remote coaching program. I feel honoured to have worked with them all and been part of their own personal success. Along the way I have become friends with some truly amazing people.

We now have four coaches working for us. They are all doing a fantastic job. I really enjoying working with them and bouncing ideas off them and the collective cycling knowledge that we all share together. Our website traffic is building every year as more people come to our site to pick up the odd tip about cycling.

Our company is about high performance cycling training. We are passionate about it and about your cycling success. Our goal is simple.  To help you ride faster on your bike...
