Sean has been on the remote coaching program since last year and has been training for the La Marmotte. He will then be spending the next 14 days riding from "village" to "village" averaging 129km (80 miles) per day through the French Alps in his quest to ride 100 mountain passes (Cols) and thereby become the only Barbadian members of the Club des Cent Cols. Sean is a Certified Personal Trainer and has been cycling for over 6 years. Sean lost both parents to cancer less than a year apart, but it was after his mother Audrey Simpson passed in April 2005 that he felt the need to do something to raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer. The 2008 Challenge begins on Day 1 (Sat. Jul 5th) with La Marmotte.
La Marmotte is billed as one of the toughest one day cycling events in the world. It is a mass-timed bicycle race that has taken place every year for the last 30 years.
La Marmotte is 174 kms (108 miles) long with 17,000 ft of climbing and includes these 4 major mountains all made famous by the Tour de France:

    4 major climbs:
  • Col du Glandon - 1,918m ( 6293 ft)
  • Col du Telegraphe - 1,570m (5,151 ft)
  • Col du Galibier - 2,642m (8,668 ft) - viewed by many as the greatest climb in France, we will be doing the North side which is also the biggest vertical climb in France
  • L' Alpe D'Huez - 1,880m (6,168 ft.) - the most famous mountain climb in the Tour de France
