The Senior Mens events were dominated by Shane Perkins (Carnegie Caulfield CC) with Perkins claiming the Keirin and Sprint titles. Perkins' Beijing Olympic aspirations were no doubt given a boost following his outstanding sprint efforts at the weekend.

Perkins and Malaysian cyclist Azil Hasni thrilled the crowds with world class sprint cycling at its best with the two trading blows in the Keirin and Sprint, with Perkins claiming both titles by the barest of margins.

Perkins won his Keirin heat comfortably, but it was in the final that the former Keirin Junior World Champion showed his true power and strength. Taking the lead from Joel Leonard on the final lap with Hasni close on his hip, the pair set a blistering last half lap with Perkins taking it by no more than a cm on the line. In the Sprint Final, Hasni and Perkins shared the first two heats and then proceeded to raise the roof off Melbourne's newest indoor velodrome with a Ride from Perkins to be seen to be believe.

Hasni made a surprise early move and caught Perkins off guard, taking what all in attendance thought was an unassailable lead going into the back straight.  However, a burst of energy from Perkins in the back straight, saw him reel his opponent in coming into the home straight and in similar fashion to the Keirin, he took the title by millimetres.

Perkins also featured in the Time Trial event, though for different reasons. Riding the first lap of the event only, Shane posted 17.868 first lap time, well under the 18 seconds he needed to record to enter into calculations for the Beijing Olympics Australian Team Sprint combination.
