What are the odds?

11Feb2012

Hi everyone,
My story is about a bad crash I had in May this year.

It was Thursday 13/05/2010 and I had been on a ride with the local crew.

I left them after our ride and went on by myself to do some extra k's. The last thing I remember is leaving the group about 7am and my next memory is being in a ward in Lismore Hospital late that afternoon.

A lady found me crawling on the road and took me to Maclean Hospital. I was then  transferred to Lismore Hospital by ambulance, none of this do I remember. I suffered a broken collar bone, an endplate fracture of L2, joint and  muscular damage to my right hand, concussion and amnesia. Road rash on my left collar bone but no other skin loss, massive bruising.

When I later inspected my bike I was puzzled to find absolutely no cosmetic damage and having regard to the gear that the bike was in I would estimate my speed at the time of the accident to be about 30-35 kph. There was damage to the forks and spokes. This was very strange and as I had no memory I could not explain what had happened to me. Later again after my bike had been repaired I noticed that my pump was damaged and not useable. There were 2 big dents on the pump and the plunger could not move up or down. The distance between the 2 dents perfectly matched the gap between the forks.

So now we could work out what happened. The pump was dislodged from the bracket, somehow found it's way into my front wheel and when it reached the forks, well only one thing can happen.

Base over apex.
What are the  odds ?
