Southern Vets Club Championships - Road Race
Sunday 24th August was Southern Vets Cycling Club (SVCC) club championships - road. The race was held on the circuit Cora-Lynn - Bayles - Modella - Longwarry - Tynong - Cora-Lynn, the women were sent around the shorter circuit taking out Heath Hill.
There was a small group of ladies and none of us really knew the circuit – David was driving the lead car for us so we didn't get lost. We decided to stick together until the home stretch. I was feeling really good and full of confidence after the State TT Championships the day before. On each rise I kicked but told the girls that I would wait for them at the top. Once we turned out of Tynong back to Cora-Lynn for the finish line one of the girls said I'm ok from here you go. Well that was enough for me, about 5-6km from the finished I kicked away from the group got the jump and no-one else came with me. I got into the drops and kept the power on and my heart rate up, knowing that I could ride hard from the previous day helped. I took a few glances over the shoulder and could not see anyone else. I turned the last corner towards the finish line and decided to still sprint for the line. I finished first in my age group and first out of all the ladies.
It was great having David in the lead car for him to see me kick and attack the race. We often talk tactics, particularly when we watch races. David said that I probably won by about 1km - I just had a brilliant weekend of racing although I had done a lot of training!
