The Melbourne to Warrnambool is in 9 weeks are you ready?

At an unthinkable 300 Kilometres, the Melbourne to Warrnambool Road Race is the world’s longest one day race.  Esteemed in Australian and Victorian road racing history, this is one of the true epics that shape our domestic road racing calendar.

One of the features of the Melbourne to Warrnambool is that all grades (A-D) start together, so whether you intend to race all the way with the big guns, or form your own group simply to finish, this race has something for everyone.

For those that complete the course within two hours of the winners’ time, there is also a prestigious and timeless finisher’s medallion on offer.

It’s now 9 weeks until the race, which will be held on the 25th of October 2008 and we are guessing this might just be a race you have always wanted to try but not sure where to start.

At Cycling Inform we are committed to helping cyclists of all abilities achieve the cycling goals and we know preparation is the key to being successful. This year, for the first time, we are very pleased to provide specific personal consulting and training services to aid in your preparation specifically for this race.

Whether you want to know exactly how you prepare in the last 9 weeks, or what to expect in the race in terms of support, our specialist services will be of value in providing the critical and expert advice you need to get to Warrnambool.

Imagine the sense of accomplishment of riding into Raglan Parade Warrnambool knowing you have just been a part of Australian cycling history.

Sharon Laws - Bright Boot Camp support rider and Olympian

Congratulations to Sharon Laws who was a support rider at our Bright Boot Camp in January 2008. Sharon was selected for the Women's Olympic Road Race for the British team and rode in support of her team mate Nicole Cooke who won the Gold medal! Sharon finished 35th 0.53 behind the winner, (there were 66 starters and 62 finishers).

Those that watched the race would have seen Sharon on or near the front until the breaks occurred on the last lap. Unfortunately Sharon as involved in a crash about 48km to the finish, and just a few minutes after the favourites move to the front. This was the same crash where the Korean rider fell into the ditch and took the other riders down.

Sharon has had an amazing year. In January she participated in the Australian road championships and came 2nd which was only her eighth bike race.  In June she broke her ankle (fibula) in a training accident and there was concern she would not be able to take her place in the team.

Congratulations Sharon.                                                                       Image Copyright (c) GB Cycling Team

In 2007 the Tour of Bright organisers changed the race when they dropped the criterium on the Sunday and replaced the epic climb up Mt Buffalo to an even more epic climb up Mt Hotham. Mt Hotham has sections with gradients up to 10% and is around a 30 km climb. Combining this with the two stages on the Saturday; the Tawonga Gap loop and the 15.7 km rolling time trial course, the Tour of Bright is now even more suited to the cyclist that considers themselves a good climber. Here are five tips for training for the Tour of Bright. Click on the "Full Story link" to read more.

Isagenix - its working for me!

Finally I have found something that seems to be working. Over the last few months I have increased my training, partly due to my goals but also because I wanted to look good this summer. However even with this increased training the scales were not really moving to reflect the amount of effort that I was putting in. That was until now.

An amazing year of results

This year is definitely the most that I have ever trained and trained based on a structured program and I have had the most amazing results. I have won my age groups Veteran State Road and Criterium Championships and Club Road and Criterium Championships. I have also taken bronze in the Masters State TT Championships (Div 1) and silver in the Masters State Team TT Championships. At the Veterans South Pacific Championships at Easter this year I came second in the 300m sprint, third in the criterium and time trial.

About 20 months ago I was hit by a car when out training, it took me a while to get over those injuries. I got back on the bike about November last year, and until March this year I was still having physio 3 times a week for recovery from the accident.

I made a decision that I wanted to get back racing and really focused on that decision. I have trained hard and I have entered races this year that I have never really attempted before and the results have been amazing. The results also give me confidence and enthusiasm to keep racing and setting the next goal. I know at times there have been races were there not that many to race against - I always say that 'you can only race against those that turn up'.

Thank you to everyone that has encouraged me and especially to David my husband and coach.

Sunday 24th August was Southern Vets Cycling Club (SVCC) club championships - road. The race was held on the circuit Cora-Lynn - Bayles - Modella - Longwarry - Tynong - Cora-Lynn, the women were sent around the shorter circuit taking out Heath Hill.
