The 2009 Great Escapade Western Australia
Saturday 28 March - Sunday 5 April 2009

After three years, the bike ride known as the Great Escapade is returning to WA in 2009 when up to 2,000 people are expected to holiday in one of the world's premier cycling regions, the South West of Western Australia.

Organised by Bicycle Victoria, the 567 kilometre cycling holiday will ride a loop around the South West starting and finishing in Margaret River.

Criterium or 'crit' racing tends to raced over the summer season. The format is laps of a short circuit. They usually have no set distance but instead the race is run over a set time and then a number of laps. For example Caulfield Carnegie Cycling Club A and B grade at Glenvale Crescent in Mulgrave, Victoria, race for 60 minutes and then three laps, while C and D grade race for less time, but still with 3 laps at the completion of the time. No one wants to be stuck in the middle of no-where with a flat tyre. That's what makes a frame pump such a popular and essential accessory. There are two types of frame pumps, those made for off road and those made for road biking. The difference has to do with the difference in tyres. Off-road tyres are fatter, require more volume and are run at lower pressures. Conversely, road tyres are skinnier and take less air, but at much higher pressures. Frame pumps are designed for these differences.
