Turned up to Tuesday nights Sandown race – this was also a wet race but I was keen to just try to ride again to keep momentum of a fairly broken run recently. Got to the sign up desk where the lady exclaimed “I’m sure it’s you” – wondering what she was talking about, she flicked through the pages of the registrations and says “Yep it is… you’ve been promoted to C grade”… apparently the lady who was doing the grading had not been doing it the last few weeks because her husband had died, so the other lady went through it recently, found that I had gotten 4 places since Christmas (3rd, 2nd, 2nd, 4th) and put me up to C grade. This race started out ok, light rain, people holding off a bit because Sandown (being primarily a car circuit) gets REALLY slippery when wet – but the day had been hot so this little rain evaporated once on the
track. Pace went up as it dried, however
with 2 laps remaining, the rain got heavier and really wet the
track. Crashing out only 2 days before, I wasn’t really keep to push it on my debut C grade race and go down again, so I cornered slowly on the last lap, 2 others didn’t and crashed out
within the last 3 corners. The second person who crashed I stopped to help because they hit their head and got pretty
scratched up… DNF
