Nov 2011 Bright Boot Camp Report

There were 52 riders including participants and support riders. We had 13 people return to participate in at least their second camp. The participants again enjoyed a great selection of products from our sponsors Aussie Butt Cream and Shotz. Lexus of Brighton also supplied one of the support cars.
We were supported by 3 vehicles, 9 support riders and a bike mechanic.
Day 1: Mt Buffalo
The morning started off cool after some heavy rain overnight. It was a nice temperature for the climb even though the riders encountered more rain. Unfortunately with fog and rain the views from Mt Buffalo were completely hidden.
Once at the top the riders enjoyed the shelter where they put all their warm clothes on for the descent back to camp base. A few riders opted out of descending on the wet roads and were escorted back to camp base in one of the support cars.
In the afternoon there was a stretching and myofascial release session with physiotherapist Lucas Owens followed by a functional strength session lead by David Heatley.

Day 2: Falls Creek or Top of Tawonga
All the bunches rolled out with the support riders setting the tempo for what is the biggest day of the Bright Boot Camp. A couple of riders decided to save their legs for day three and turned back to camp once at the top of Tawonga, the rest of the riders continued. Once the water bottles were filled in Mt Beauty the riders proceeded up Falls Creek.
Once the last group was through Bogong Village on the ascent it was not long before the rain came in. Group 1 avoided most of the rain but group 2 & 3 certainly got wet, a few riders opted again to take advantage of the support vans for the decent. By the time we crossed back over Tawonga we were again in sunshine for the rest of the day.
At the evening seminar David Heatley presented on high performance training with heart rate and power data analysis followed by altitude training demonstration. After the diner break Tony the camp mechanic answered bike maintenance questions from the group and distributed many give-aways.

Day 3: Mt Hotham or Toll Gates
A great day with perfect conditions to get to the top of Mt Hotham for anyone that wanted too. Many of group 3 and a few of group 2 decided that the Toll Gates ½ way up were enough for the day and turned back from there with a couple of support riders.
At the evening seminar Lucas Owen from Cycling Physiotherapy Centre presented on body maintenance followed by Harry demonstrated his Hurt Box power software with Olof providing the real time data. After the dinner break Jodie presented on event preparation and David finished the evening with a presentation on nutrition.

Day 4: Tawonga Loop
On the final day of the Bright Boot Camp everyone that was riding decided on the full loop ride through the valley and a climb up Rosewhite and Tawonga back to Bright and then onto camp base. For the first time in camp history we had no takers for the coffee ride. It was a glorious Spring day with little wind and sun both sides of the valley.
At the end of the four days as usual there were lots of smiles and a great sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.
The weather smashed us around on the first two days but did not dampen our spirit. Then it turned on two spectacular days for us. Well done to all that attended.
Thanks to all those that attend the November Bright Boot Camp, including the support riders – David Sturt, Andrew, Andy, James, Pip, Olof and Harry. Plus our fantastic support drivers Kylie, Dan and Mick and camp mechanic Tony. We hope that you had a fantastic and memorable camp.
