Neil Wesley wins in Tasmania

News from Neil Wesley in Tasmania:

Hi David,
Great weekend weatherwise again, we are being very spoilt at the moment with magic autumn weather. Raced at the weekend over 65km with 21km of gravel. Bit of an experience but it brought a different event to the calendar and seemed to be enjoyed by all participants. Actually won the race. I struggled for a large portion of the race but hung in there. My mhr was 98% and I spent 21 minutes in VO2MAX. I raced with my training rims & tyres whilst most of the other guys were on race wheels. The really pleasing thing is how strong I felt on the hills, the main hill was on the gravel section which really had to be spun on the seat for traction, and I absolutely creamed it and the last time up broke the group up leaving only five of us. I struggle to work out why these guys hurt me on the flat so much but as soon as we get to the hills it turns around. I really look forward to a couple of later races which are really hilly. I have only one more win left before I will be pushed up a grade so I may have to choose my races a bit more until I am ready to ride in the next grade. Overall a good result and obviously the hill efforts are showing positive gains and much to the wife’s disgust I now have a large lump of rock on a wooden base to prove it. Have a good week.
