Brendan Rowbotham wins A grade at Glenvale

18May2012

Brendan Rowbotham, co-creator of the RaceRight events and Cycling-Inform Coach wins the A Grade race at Glenvale Crescent on 12 Oct. Here is Mal's race report.

Mal Sawford - Carnegie Caulfield Cycling Club.

Plenty of horsepower in the A Grade bunch, and the opening laps were all fast as the bunch chased the traditional suicide break by Alister Stuart (Le Tour Cycles), Matt Shea (Inexa) and Daniel Young (Burnley Finance).

Midrace, a break of ten went clear containing week one Troy Clarke (Richmond Cyclery) but their lead never exceeded 10 seconds and it was only a matter of time before the bunch reformed. The winning break developed with around 20 minutes remaining, and contained three of the CCCC Elite team: Brendan Rowbotham, Vaughan Bowman and Danny Kah, along with Murray Spink (Giant), Peter Trigar (Mascot Cycles), Steele Van Hoff (TorQ) and Leigh De Luca (Jamis).

The bunch closed to within 50 metres with five minutes to race, but only Gerard Donnelly could cross the gap before the break away put the hammer down and pulled away.

The sprint for the win came down to a battle between Spink and Rowbotham, with Rowbotham taking the CCCC Elite team's first win in their '09 strip. Trigar claimed third with a good throw ahead of Van Hoff, De Luca and Kah.
