Day one of the 2009 Australian Masters Games and four medals
Race report from day one of the 2009 Australian Masters Games
I have been trialing our woman's development program with Jodie and Jane and it's been great to get good results so soon. Jane rode a track bike for the first time 16 weeks ago. Both of them have been only racing for around three years.
16 weeks of training; early mornings at the local track and hard interval sessions gets the results.

What is is all about. One of Jodie's Silver medals. All that good quality training paying off.
Day 1 of the 2009 Australian Masters Games in Geelong for cycling was the 440m TT (1 lap) and 1760m pursuit (4 laps). The day started off ideal weather wise but by the afternoon was hot, dry and windy. Just not what you want for a pursuit. The day was over fairly early with the organisers getting the events completed early, moving swiftly before the conditions took there toll on the riders.
Jodie was against the silver medalist in the pursuit from the World Masters Track Championships 2008. Jane and Jodie both posted PB's in the pursuit. Overall Jane had an excellent day with a gold and silver and Jodie two silvers.
Warm up time at Cycling-Inform's camp set up at the 2009 Australian Masters Games using our stock standard issue Kinetic Trainers.
Jane Hill warming up on the new track surface at Geelong. Jane doesn't have a track bike so she borrowed mine. Thoses wheels are my racing wheels from the 1980's. 36 hole Campagnolo high flange hubs with gold retro rims.
Jodie Batchelor warming up on the track too. Our testing indicated that the zip disk wheel and aero helmet was the fastest setup for the 1760m event. No suprises there. No aero bars yet. Keeping it simple to start off with. We'll be introducing aero bars later on in the season.
Jane gets her first medal for the day, silver in the 440m event. Missing out on gold by only two 10's of a second. Left to right - Jane, Marita Box and Aileen O'Brien
And Jodie gets hers for the same event. Left to right - Jodie, Karen Munro and Caroline Page.
Jane cheering Jodie on during the 1760 meter event. Jodie and Jane were very supportive of each other during the training, providing each other with lots of encouragement.
Jodie bringing it home.
Jane getting her gold medal for the 1740m event. Left to right - Martina Box, Jane and Aileen O'Brien.
Jodie getting her second medal for the day, a silver in the 1740m event. Left to right - Jodie, Karen Munro and Caroline Page.
Thanks to the commissaires and volunteers. The day was well run and everyone seemed to have a great day. Jodie and Jane are not racing the track sprint or scratch race tomorrow but best of luck to those that are.
