Hope this note finds Jodie and you well.  You must be absolutely wrapped with the progress Brendan and your disciples are making, especially Jess and Harry!!

I have arrived at week four/ block 3 so brings to an end my first 12 weeks of training under Brendan’s guidance.  A big transformation has taken place in that time with has seen me go from “gradually” improving in C grade under my own training regime [which consisted of riding my bike a long way each week], to winning C grade in the first three weeks of Brendan’s coaching.  Once in B grade, I was almost immediately competitive and last week I just got pipped on the line for third place in only my fourth B grade race.

Tonight, I found myself arriving late to the meet having lost track of time doing my warm up at home on the rollers and then getting caught in traffic.  Long story short, I couldn’t get a place in B grade [as it was full] so I pinned an A grade number on and went for it.  I certainly didn’t disgrace myself and finished half way up the pack, and ahead of riders I used to look up to a short time ago.  Back to B grade next week as I try to achieve one of my goals, which was to place in B grade by the end of the summer series!

There was further evidence of my improvement a couple of weeks ago on the Sutherland club training camp.  On the ascent of Macquarie Pass I managed a time of 41.28 for the 13KM of this well known climb, which bettered my time of last November considerably when I climbed it in 47.08!!  A 12% improvement in such a short timeframe, and looking at my numbers I could have gone even harder but this was at the start of a 182KM day so I had to save myself a bit.

Having completed the Bright Boot Bamp in February David, I found myself able to back up on our club camp in Kiama day after day, which saw day 1 at 100Ks, day 2 150Ks, followed by a 182K day, a short recovery ride on the Saturday and a further 100Ks on the Sunday.  The 150 and 180 days consisted of some ridiculous ascents over Saddleback Mountain, and through the extremely steep/ long climbs of Kangaroo Valley, with some sections hitting over 20% gradients.  The Bright experience set my body up perfectly for the hammer it took and I came through it feeling strong.

Not surprisingly, I’ll be staying with the programme and can’t wait to see what the next twelve weeks brings.
