Latest remote coaching update from Steven Green

Thursday nights C grade crit at Sandown started under heavy skies and with a strong wind.  At least the temperature was reasonable.  The majority of the race passed with little incident with only a few very half hearted attacks being tried in the knowledge that the back straight incline and the headwind would do for all but the very strongest.

Holding a reasonable position in the bunch without taking a turn on the front can be tricky on some circuits but a second paceline would often form on the hill and one could just slip across to join the other line and avoid the pointy end of the pack.

So final lap...

Pace picked up a bit from the bell and a few tried their legs on the back straight.  I held my position and waited for the final bend.  One rider went early just before the final two bends and had a good lead into the final straight.  Patience was the key however.  The sprint opened up with two riders ahead of me.  I got up to their speed and then kicked all the way to the line.  Taking the win by a bike length or two.

The confidence I now have in my ability to sustain an effort is definitely thanks to David's coaching these last few months.  One more race in C grade and then a whole new challenge awaits!

Regards,

Steven Green
