Cycle Coaches

David Heatley

David started riding in 1980. His first race was the Balfour Pennington Handicap race run by Port Nicholson Poneke Cycling Club in 1981. He then went on to race at centre and national level in New Zealand. Now he races as a masters rider in Australia. He has been coaching cyclists since 2004. He now coaches people all over Australia, the UK and Singapore, many to medal placing at State and National level. He feels honoured to be working with the people he coaches and being part of their own personal success.

 

Brendan Rowbotham

Brendan Rowbotham has a passion for helping cyclists achieve their goals. He has struck the perfect balance for managing cycling demands, work, study and family commitments. Brendan has raced for the last thirteen years using training techniques that have optimised his training and time management. His successes include winner of the Inexa Summer Criterium Series and a top ten finish in the Melbourne to Warrnambool. Brendan knows what it is like to juggle real life commitments with cycling and will share a wealth of tactical and proven training and racing experience. Brendan is heading up our elite road coaching program.

 

David Sturt

David Sturt has been a successful racing cyclist for many years. Competing in many events his successes include the 2005 De Bortoli Tour winner, Tatts Cup top ten finish - 1995 & 1996 and notable four times winner of the Tour of Bright - 2000, 2002, 2005 & 2009. David is passionate about cycle racing and is our best racing tactician.

 

Peter (Barney) Bennett

Peter has been riding and racing bikes since ne was 3 or 4 years old. His father raced, all his brothers raced and on his mother's side all her brothers raced (Colin Kelly) father of the great Shane Kelly 5 times Olympian. He grew up with all the Kelly's in Ararat so it was all very competitive and soon learnt handling skills and tactics. Peter raced at international level and has represented Australia in international tours. He was a member of the Inaugral Jayco professional cycling team and has ridden the Suntour and Commonwealth Bank Classic on multiple occasions. He placed 6th in the 1991 Australian open Road Championships and have represented Victoria on the road, Velodrome and on the MTB. State medalist in the Individual Pursuit and 50km Points score. Today he thoroughly enjoys just being part of the local scene. Whilst he likes to be as competitive as he can, it's the people and the fun of Cycling he really enjoys!

 

James McArdle

James is a successful MTB and road club level rider. He provides MTB and Road coaching for cyclists wantign to get ahead at club level racing.

 

Olof Szymczak

Olof takes the classes at BikePark and is a keen rec rider who races occasionally. Olof also has also been a Bright Boot Camp support rider for all of our Bright Boot Camps.
