In a few weeks we'll have the much awaited THB-Ergo Cycling Power Software for home trainers. It is now available for pre-purchase. Details for purchasing it are at the bottom of this article.

What does it do?
The THB-Ergo software is a low cost entry point to power training. It is for use on a stationary trainer and runs on your Mac or PC.THB -Ergo is ANT+ compliant, meaning it can wirelessly talk to any ANT+ compatible sensor such as Garmin on your bike using the ANT+ USB stick supplied by THB. ANT+ has become the industry standard method of wireless communication used in both sporting and medical applications. THB is an ANT Alliance member

Listed below are three different scenarios for training with power using THB-Ergo, in increasing cost but also increasing accuracy.

Using Wheel Speed to Determine Power
When training on a home trainer (such as a Kurt Kinetic) THB-Ergo can use an ANT+ speed sensor attached to your rear wheel to measure your speed. From this, power is computed by using the known relationship between speed and power on the trainer. This is the cheapest power solution, but uses the manufacturers one-size-fits-all power curve.

Custom Calibrated Trainer Fitted with ANT+ sensor
At THB, we have the facility to custom calibrate the power curve of an indoor trainer. Measurements are made at a wide range of steady state power outputs (50-500 watts) using a wheel fitted with a PowerTap hub being driven by a motor capable of 1500 watts. Then, using a statistical analysis process known as Least-Squares, a custom power curve is generated that is specific to the individual trainer. As part of this process, an ANT+ sensor is mounted to the trainer that THB-Ergo uses directly to compute power.

Using Your ANT+ PowerTap, SRM or Quarq Power Cranks
THB-Ergo still offers some unique features even if you have a power meter. Firstly, it uses your computer’s screen, so all the power numbers are easily visible on the heads up display. You can also display the real-time graph of power, heart rate, cadence and speed. However, even more unique, is the ability to compute Normalized Power and hence Training Stress Score (TSS) in real time.

Analysis of Training Data
Using the THB-Ergo calendar view you can review files from previous sessions and do lap analysis of average lap power, cadence, heart rate, etc. through the calendar screen. Weekly TSS and total training time is also displayed.
A THB-Ergo session is output as a “FIT” file, an industry standard ANT+ compliant file format for exercise data. This file format is compatible with the most popular training analysis software (eg WKO+) and also Garmin and other ANT+ compatible systems
