Recovery and massage

For the last month I have been having a regular massage, once a week on my rest day. I really think this has been helping, not just mentally but with injury and being able to back up a few tough weeks of training.

I used to get a massage about once every 3 weeks by Adrian at Copeland College in Caulfield. He is a club racing cyclist himself and his wife also races so he really knew the spots that needed to be worked on. Then for the last month I have been going every rest day which is Monday for me. It works really well for me as I race on the weekends and then Monday get a little sleep in, then go for my massage. I then start my training week feeling like I have really rested and treated my body right.

I also think it has helped with injury recovery. I had a bit of a crash a few weeks back in a criterium and then 5 days later started 3 days of intense racing later with the Vic Open Road Chamionships and the SKCC Trophy Race. My did not feel any of my injuries during the 3 races although was still carrying some fairly colourful bruising.

Anyway, if you are training hard it might be worth considering a regular massage. I highly recommend Copeland College in Caulfield if you live around Melbourne - http://www.copelandcollege.com.au/sporting.asp or ph 03 9532 8144.
