Loading... Please wait...What if the best British cyclist of his generation could go back in time to test himself against the greatest cyclist ever - and set one last record before he retired.
This moving and intimate film tells the story of Chris Boardman's attempt at a new hour record. The cameras follow him all the way to the decisive day in October 2000 at Manchester's velodrome. Witness the attention to detail and preparation that's been the foundation of all Boardman's great achievements - and which mirrors that of the man he is trying to out do - as we see and hear from Merckx himself, who has given his blessing to this attempt.
And we have the story of the hour record, the ultimate solo effort in cycling. No rivals, tactics or terrain to influence the outcome - just 60 minutes of suffering to try and ride further than anyone has before. Boardman did it twice, in 1993 and 1996. And now, in the final year of a brilliant career that has included World Championships and an Olympic Gold Medal, he decided to tackle the last "pure" hour record - Eddy Merckx's of 1972. Merckx, universally acknowledged as the greatest rider in history, was the last to set the record on a standard-frame bike; 49.431 kilometres.
This is the story of Boardman's attempt to beat the record - on the same kind of equipment. No superbike or superman position, no aerodynamic helmet; a veritable trip back in time to race not just against the clock but against a cycling legend who retired before Boardman bought his first bike.
BONUS: DVD features an exclusive in-depth interview with Chris Boardman, as he looks back at the record attempt and reflects intimately on his career.
Unique to the DVD is an historical feature on the hour record.
