THB Software - Frequently asked questions
Will I get a power reading in real-time on the Garmin 500 display?
No, the sensor on the Kurt is a speed sensor, but reading the RPMs from the Kurt fly wheel which itself goes more than 10 times faster than the bike's rear wheel. The Edge 500 can't even keep up with it. The THB-Ergo software is needed to accurately read the RPMs from which the power calculation is made.
About 5 Watts, but very repeatable. The Kurt's factory power numbers can be quite a bit different from unit to unit, hence the calibration. We calibrate it so the best accuracy is in the 250-350 watt range.
If there are better options could you provide information please?
For measuring power, you can use the Quarq cranks, but they are expensive $2000 or a power tap wheel > $1000. It really depends on what you want to spend. You can also just use an ANT+ speed sensor on your rear wheel, plus the THB-Ergo software using the factory values for your Kurt (if you have one). Your power values may not technically be accurate, but they will be repeatable, which is still very useful tracking progress and doing specific intervals.
I already have a ANT+ USB adaptor, how much is the software without the ANT+ USB adaptor
The software is "keyed" to the ANT+ USB stick. There is no option to buy it without the ANT+ USB adaptor.
