Amy's Ride provides the Amy Gillett Foundation with an opportunity to proliferate key messages of safe and responsible road use, increase awareness to the need for more shared respect, raise much needed funds and honor the memory of Amy.

The 2011 Share the Road Tour aims to raise $150k to fund the development of this new national campaign to ensure its sustainability over the coming 12 months.

The Amy Gillett Foundation plans to launch a new national safety campaign that will continue to build on the awareness created by the successful "A Metre Matters" campaign, launched at the Canberra to Melbourne Corporate ride in November, 2009.

The focus of the campaign is to communicate with a primary audience of 16 to 24 year old male drivers. This group is responsible for 20% (1,800) of the death/serious injuries that occur annually around the country.

"It saddens me when riders in our cycling community are injured or killed on the roads while taking part in this fantastic sport. I hope that by participating in this event and raising money for it I can help raise the awareness of both cyclists and motorists and reduce the vulnerability we face every day we ride. It is a great honour to have the chance to be riding for the Amy Gillett Foundation. I hope that Amy Gillett’s memory carries on for generations to come and that the people of this organisation continue to do great work in helping to make it “safe together” and eliminate bike related fatalities." - David Heatley.
