Well done to Dale Maizels (coached by David Heatley) for taking out Gold in the Time Trial & Criterium and Bronze in Road Race at the Australian Veterans Cycling Championships held in Tasmania. It’s a great effort. For the three races she was out numbered against the strong contingency of Tassie riders but not out classed.
In the Criterium race two women were dropped in first lap as one of the WA women hit out a massive attack off the front. There was a lot of attacking for the reminder of the race but nothing eventuated. Dale sat 2nd wheel with half lap to go. The third rider started her sprint with a 100m to go and Dale got on her wheel and went around her at 50m to go to win the race.
In the ITT Dale won by 31 sec over 25 km.
In the 50km Road Race one of the Tassie women attack on every hill. The hill at 15 km into the race was 9% causing 2 riders to be dropped from the race. Dale was caught by surprise from a duel attack from two Tassie riders at the 9km mark. Dale worked with another Tassie rider to bridge the gap but was unsuccessful. Dale then sprinted for the finish to be placed third.
